“When we are truly Hopeful, we can be patient existentially, relationally, and in every other aspect of our lives. Because we know that, underneath everything, we are waiting on God. So we can wait on him in the Things of our lives. We can wait on him to move in our lives and the lives of others. We can wait on our ordinary circumstances because they pail in comparison to what we are waiting on from him”

Best part of your piece for me. A reminder that under it all, God holds us together if we so choose his way over our own. Also arks back to the scripture about building your house on solid rock. On that rock your foundation is sure, resilient and unshaken

"Only hopeful people can be patient and only patient people can have hope."

I feel a lot in that sentence. Not sure what yet, but it's definitely something True.

Super helpful and hopeful, Ian. The night of January 1, I found myself feeling extremely frustrated with a sibling and incredibly impatient with some of the choices he’s making and the consequences of his actions on our family. I felt compelled to pray (via writing) about it and found my frustration giving way to pleading for patience! It’s so very hard and self-righteousness certainly stands stubbornly in the path towards it. But what you’ve outlined here really helps as I continue to process what it looks like to invest in that relationship for both now and the future. Thanks for sharing and I’m looking forward to reading your book when it releases!

I'm definitely preaching to myself in this one too. Right there with you. Onwards and upwards.
