A very helpful article. I resonate with a lot of your prayer journey. I have found praying scripture to be life changing in terms of regular prayer. It flows from the bible reading I do and takes a lot of the pressure off as it's already laid out for us! I think you'd like Jonathan Gibson's work, his book Be Thou My Vision is excellent, as is his Advent book which I'm reading through at the moment.

Yes! Right there with you. Be Thou My Vision was my gateway to the BCP. Love it. I keep it close and visit it often.

The Valley of Vision has been instrumental for me, and reminds me of the power of writing down my prayers so I can stay focused and circle back to them later. Thanks Ian!

Haven't used it but have heard great things about it! Had a friend send me a prayer from it this morning actually. Love it.

This is really helpful Ian, I'm experimenting with prayer books at the moment. I particularly like your emphasis on imagination, that being with God would (slowly) reshape the telos of our life and so rewrite the story we're living, particularly through repeated actions that re-narrate the story of the cosmos (the gospel) to us. Thanks for writing it.

You said what I meant to say better than I could have said it. That's exactly right.

It took me experimenting basically all year, but I think I'm finally satisfied with something that is sustainable for a long time.
